                                                            About the League

“League members are those who do the homework on local and state issues … They have a wonderful knack for making sense of the proceedings and the documents — and they pass on that knowledge to the rest of the community in clear language, nicely packaged.”  The Santa Fe New Mexican
The League of Women Voters is a national grassroots organization that focuses on four key actions:
                                                            • educating citizens and fostering dialogue on pertinent issues.
                                                            • helping create positive, lasting change in our communities.
                                                            • empowering millions of voters to protect their right to vote.
                                                            • protecting constitutional rights and fighting for a strong democracy.
The League is an organization where individuals like you are actively engaged in creating positive change on the local, state, and national levels. Become a member, serve as a leader, and work to shape the important issues that keep our communities strong.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING LATELY?

                                                            • The League helped Santa Fe County formulate a smart-growth plan to help preserve natural resources and advocated for the plan’s successful passage by the County Commission.
                                                            • We testified before New Mexico’s Environmental Improvement Board on the League position on climate change, encouraging the board to pass a law to tackle greenhouse pollution.
                                                            • We completed a study of transparency in local government to help county and city governments become more accessible, open, and responsive to the public.
                                                            • We publish election guides widely valued by voters and decision-makers for their wealth of nonpartisan information on candidates and ballot measures.
                                                            • We conduct voter-registration drives across the county and candidate forums before elections.
